 Easy Falafel
This recipe for falafel contains few ingredients which cuts down on preparation time. Perfect for those who want an easier version of falafel.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 15 oz. can chickpeas, drained
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 3/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • oil for frying (canola or vegetable)

Preparation:

Combine chickpeas, garlic, onion, coriander, cumin, salt and pepper (to taste) in medium bowl. Add flour and combine well.

Mash chickpeas, making sure to mix ingredients together. You can also combine ingredients in a food processor. You want the result to be a thick paste.

Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a ping pong ball. Slightly flatten.

Fry in 2 inches of oil at 350 degrees until golden brown (2-5 minutes).

Serve falafel by itself, or with hot pita bread with veggies, hummus, or tahini sauce.

2nd time making: my take, Member karabear1982

So I baked them like a previous commenter suggested, because I'm on a diet. My take on the reason they fall apart for some and not others is based on onion size. Last time I had a rather large onion so I cut it in half and used half of it. I did the chick peas and the onion in my food processor (separately) and after I had mixed all of the ingredients it was a great consistency. This time I used a whole onion because I thought it was small enough, but even then it was not very cohesive. I could tell that if I had tried to fry them they would have fallen apart. I added extra flour to fix the problem, but I didn't want to go overboard so they were still rather soft. It's not a problem when you bake/broil them however. I'd say if you have extra chick peas and the batter seems loose add more of them, to make it pastier/stickier. Other than that they are quite easy and delicious, very few ingredients. I pair them with some tzatziki and veggies and it's very very good.
