Origin: Cultivation began in Crete over 3000 years ago and slowly spread to North Africa and Middle East.
Taste : Saffron has a very mild spicy taste that is very smooth.
Buying Saffron: Saffron is the most expenive spice in the world. It takes about 3000 saffron flowers to make one ounce of saffron. In the market, you can buy saffron strings(stigmas)or in ground form. Saffron is a deep yellow orange color.
Uses: Saffron is used for coloring and flavoring food. It produces a vibrant yellow color and is commonly used in rice dishes.
