Date Nut Bread

Date nut bread is perfect for breakfast or as a dessert. As it pairs well with coffee, this date nut bread recipe is sure to please!

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 55 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups dates, finely chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup boiling water

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and start water to boil.

In a mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix in egg and vanilla extract. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl mix together dates and walnuts. Pour boiling water over date and nut mixture. Set aside.

Grease loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray or shortening.

Add dry ingredient mixture to date-nut mixture. Mix well. Spoon into loaf pan.

Bake for 55 minutes to 1 hour.

Cool for 15 minutes. Serve with your favorite coffee or tea.

Moist, sweet, rich date flavor, Member PatoFeliz

I love this recipe. I made a couple of changes when I made it. I used all whole wheat pastry flour rather than white flour and I added 1/4 tsp. almond extract. I think it's best cooled, then wrapped and served the next day, but after than slice and freeze it because it's so moist it will mold very quickly. It is really delicious....even for people who say they don't like dates.
