Cooking for Your Sweetheart
Tuesday February 10, 2009
Although not traditionally celebrated in the Middle East, Valentines Day is a perfect time to show your sweetheart two things - 1) you love them and 2) you know how to cook. Here are some Middle Eastern foods and drinks I make for my wife to show her how much I love her:
Arabic Coffee: I know, how can coffee be romantic? Well, take a little half and half or whipped cream and make the shape of a heart on top of the coffee after pouring. Makes for a nice surpise.
Baklawa: Baklawa takes a lot of time to make, but if your sweetheart like it, it's worth the time. Cut out in heart shapes after baking with a cookie cutter or a knife if you have that kind of talent.
Turkish Delight: Add some red food coloring while cooking and you have red candies!
If all else fails, I have a found that a box of chocolates can do just as well. Add a bouqet of flowers to the table and what a romantic meal or dessert! The trick is to remember that making a meal or food for a sweetheart should happen more than just one day a year.
