Ramadan Begins September 1st
Saturday August 30, 2008
Ramadan begins September 1st for Muslims around the world. For thirty days, followers will fast from sunup to sundown, not allowing anything to pass their lips. This includes drinking fluids and refraining from bad habits like smoking.
Once the sun goes down, the fast can be broken. Since Ramadan is observed all over the world, not just Middle Eastern foods are consumed. Of course traditional sweets like konafah and qatayef are offered, but fare will vary from culture to culture.
